Central South Dakota has some of the best goose hunting you'll find anywhere. Filling your limit isn't usually difficult, especially with the great flocks of Canada geese migrating through the region. A daily limit of eight and possession limit of 16 make for handsome trophy photos from your trip.
Gear to Bring
Bring warm layered clothing since our weather can vary greatly during the season, ranging from 20 to 70 degrees. Remember your camera! We recommend a 12 gauge or 10 gauge gun for waterfowl.
Resident and nonresident hunters need licenses for Canada goose season in Lyman County. Resident hunters are also eligible for an additional two weeks of population control shooting in August. Other waterfowl licenses are awarded to nonresidents by lottery; please contact us about options if you have been unsuccessful in the lottery.
